YOUR anonymous writer two weeks ago who suggested the Shoreham Centre was increasingly closed has got the facts wrong.
The Centre is now open from 9am until at least 5pm five days a week, at least 10am to 4pm on Saturdays and has a car boot sale every Sunday morning.

During the bad weather we never closed.

The farmers' market on a snowy Saturday in December w
as again able to remove itself to the Centre, one of the few local events that was then able to take place in the bad weather.

The Christmas period itself was a problem because, apart from the weather, the new managers had not been in place long enough to get extra events organised when the various clubs and classes closed.

It will all be different next year and the managers are already working on a programme of children's events, dances and concerts.

The centre is actually very busy currently with several new dance classes (tango, salsa, jive, line, belly, strictly etc) more room bookings, more income from two weekly markets and a very successful pantomime.

To suggest the Centre is often closed is either a gross error or a deliberate piece of malicious criticism.

There have been changes in the running of the centre and inevitably there are a few disgruntled people who may not wish us well.

I am confident that we have great managers in the centre with huge support from the staff and the public.

The centre has improved in many ways and it will continue to provide rooms and halls to the community at reasonable prices and at all times of the week.

We do not close, just try us.

Geoff Howitt, chairman of the Shoreham Centre.
High Street, Shoreham
