I WOULD love to know who invented "starters" as a preliminary course when dining.
Unlike appetisers, which do what they say (stimulate your appetite), I can find no useful purpose in starters.
A lettuce leaf and some prawns can add quite substantially to your bill.
Soup fills you up, so that your appetite is dulled before
you tackle your main course.
By the time you're ready to order your dessert, you feel too full to want it.
I love desserts – without one, I feel short-changed.
Maybe it's because I'm old-fashioned; as a youngster, brought up on two courses, a main and a sweet, starters just didn't exist.
I'd love to know what Chickie thinks.
I'm sure he'd root for pudding every time!
