I AM informed by John Bradshaw, chairman of Shoreham Beach Residents' Association, that pupils of Shoreham Beach First School will be using Beach Green for sporting activities when it becomes a primary school.
I am appalled that health and safety regulations will allow school children under the age of 12 to exercise on public land used by dog owners to exercise their animals.
The latest edition of Beach News mentions that dog fouling on Beach Green coul
d reach crisis levels when the school uses the ground for their activities.
Also, as Beach Green is a public area, the children will not have the same protection as pupils who enjoy sport facilities within their own
school grounds.
Parents are not allowed to take photos or film children without permission from the head teacher, whereas what is to prevent members of the public taking photos or secretly filming the children when they are exercising on Beach Green?
Also, should they need the toilets, they will have to cross a busy road to the public toilets, which, as reported in Beach News by councillor
Liza McKinney, have had a problem, with the men's toilets having had to be locked.
Quite obviously, Beach Green is not suitable for exercise activities for school children and an alternative venue should be found at another school in Shoreham where the children can be safe and out of the public domain.
