CLIFF Robinson, a former chairman of West Sussex county, Adur district and Lancing parish councils, has died in southern Spain at the age of 86, after a short illness.
He leaves a widow, Mima, and two sons, John and Bill.

Mr Robinson played a major role in West Sussex politics as a Liberal, then Liberal Democrat, between 1971 and 2001, when he and Mima retired to the Costa del Sol.

He was first elected to West Sussex County Council in 1981 as a Liberal.

He was chairman of that council from 1993 to 1997 and chairman of Adur District Council and Lancing Parish Council on numerous occasions.

His son, John, himself a former leader of Adur council, said: "My father will be missed by many beyond his close family.

"In local politics, he worked immensely hard and led by example."

For a full tribute to Mr Robinson see this week's Herald, out today (Thursday, December 31).
