A MAN left paralysed after spending the night in a police cell has called for an inquiry into the "systemic failures" which nearly killed him.
Gary Reynolds, from Southwick, was found in a coma in a cell at the Brighton custody suite just under two years ago, hours after being arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

When he was taken to hospital, he was found to have a serious head injury.

The 41-year-old, who used to be a long-distance runner, is now paralysed down the left hand side of his body and has a permanent brain injury.

This week, he called for a public inquiry into his case after the results of an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) were published.

Mr Reynolds said: "I think it is disgusting that no one is being charged.

"I think they should all lose their jobs."

For the full story and an interview with Mr Reynolds' brother see this week's Shoreham Herald, out today (Thursday, February 4).
