A PLAN for 14 new homes on the former site of the Southwick Dairy will be considered by councillors for a second time on Monday, March 1.
The application to build two blocks of two-bedroom flats on the site, off Old Shoreham Road, was approved by Adur District Council's development control committee on Monday, February 1, subject to a legal agreement.
Members delegated powers to the
officers to reach an agreement with the developers over access into and out of the site from the dual carriageway.
They wanted to ensure vehicles could not turn right when entering or leaving the site.
Since then, however, the developers have said they will not agree to any limitations on access.
In a letter to officers, they said the reason for this refusal was because no restriction was currently in place, building homes on the site would reduce potential traffic and existing houses in Old Shoreham Road had no such restriction.
The developers also said the original application had included full consultation with West Sussex County Council.
Officers have recommended the application is approved on the basis that it will help meet the need for new homes, will not have a negative on neighbours and will not detract from highway safety.
Apart from the access issues, councillors generally supported the application last time it appeared before the development control committee
"The site is a bit of an eyesore at the moment," Peter Metcalfe had said.
"I am very pleased to see the number of dwellings there not only meets our standards, but exceeds them."
The plans are for two blocks, each with seven two-bedroom flats, 14 car parking spaces and refuse facilities. The site has been unused since 1993.
