THE trust responsible for running Shoreham's Ropetackle Arts Centre has a new chairman.
Martin Allen was appointed as chairman of the Ropetackle Trust at the trust's annual meeting.

He took over from East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton, who had chaired the trust since 2005.

"It is a great privilege to be asked to chair the
trust," said Mr Allen.

"Once we had come through a difficult first year, 2009 was very successful, with our audiences increasing.

"Ropetackle has become well-established as a vibrant and exciting regional arts venue.

"We have become firmly established on the arts map.

"Our challenge is to see Ropetackle become a regional centre of excellence, providing the people of Adur with a rich mixture of entertainment, and involvement, and drawing audiences from further afield."

Mr Allen has a long history of involvement in the Adur arts scene, having played a leading role for many years in the running of the Adur Festival.

He joined the board in 2006 and helped to instigate the successful Art of Science programme with Sussex University during last year's festival. Mr Allen is now working with the university to establish a partnership.

"We are keen to develop the theme of art combining with science, and with other disciplines," he said.
