Today, (Thursday, October 23) the Duke of York was met by local dignitaries before unveiling a plaque officially opening the bridge and chatting to local school children.
While in Shoreham the Duke also opened Shoreham Port Authority's new building and visited Ricardo's Sir Harry Ricardo Innovation & Sustainable Transport Centre.

My dad, Alan Upton, who wrote 60 bygones articles in the Shoreham Herald, died last year.
We asked for donations towards the toll bridge at his funeral.
I have already used the bridge for crabbing with my son Harry, and have told him to think of grandpa every time he crosses it.
I also cycled over it most days for five years when I served my apprenticeship at Ricardo.
Thanks to everyone involved it's made my year.
Rob Upton
