THE number of reported crimes in Adur has fallen by 9.6 per cent in the last 12 months compared with the year before.
That means there were 415 fewer victims of crime.
Vehicle crime also fell, by 19.5 per cent, while criminal damage was reduced by 17.9 per cent.
Adur police's Chief Inspector Lawrence Hobbs said: "I hope you agree these are significant and undeniable reductions in crime that will go some way to making Adur look and feel a safer place to live, work and visit.
"The only 'fly in the ointment' is an increase in home burglaries and we experienced an increase in 31 more victims during the past 12 months.
"Despite this, Adur remains a safe place to live and the safest district in Sussex in terms of burglaries.
"Over the next 12 months, reducing burglaries will be a top priority, alongside reducing anti-social behaviour.
"I am also pleased to announce an increase in detections.
"We were set a target of achieving an overall detection rate of 28 per cent and achieved a rate of 31 per cent.
"I am delighted with the performance of Adur police, as we are seeing a welcome trend of falling levels of crime and increased levels of detections.
"I am encouraged by the welcome letters of support and appreciation that we receive, particularly for my police community support officers, who, I think, are making a real difference to the local community."
