THE winners of the Herald and Gazette series' Child of the Year competition have been presented with their prizes.
Framed photographs of the winners were given during a presentation at the Worthing Herald office, in Chatsmore Road.

They also received engraved trophies and family tickets to the Amberley Museum.

The parents spoke about how proud they were of their children for winning the awards.

Mother's pride

Keira McEwan, of Pentland Road, Worthing, won the three to five-year-old category for Child of the Year.

Her mum, Tammy Smith, 26, said: "I'm really proud of her.

"She's been really excited about wearing her special dress and having her picture taken.

"She does keep telling me she's the prettiest girl in the world, so it's gone to her head already."

Gemma Smith, of Meadowside, Angmering, said she was "ecstatic" about her daughter, Lexie Elise Smith, winning the 19 to 36 months section.

Gemma, 24, said: "I'm ecstatic. I had a friend text me and congratulate me, but I hadn't seen it in the paper at the time.

"I ran to the shop and saw she'd won and wanted to cry."

Over the moon

Karlie Davis, of Riverside Road, Shoreham Beach, said she was "over the moon" about her daughter, Marcie Steadman, winning the 10 to 18 months category.

The 22-year-old said: "It's brilliant – I'm absolutely over the moon.

"It's the first competition she's entered, so I'm really happy."

Harriot Attwell, of Church Green, Shoreham, said she hadn't expected her son, William Unsted, to win, but wanted to put him forward for the contest, anyway.

Harriot, 20, said: "I was so excited. It's amazing and I didn't know until my friend called me to tell me about it. I'm so proud of him."
