PEOPLE who rent beach huts on Widewater are facing an 125 per cent hike in rates over the next two years.
In 2009 the price of renting a beach hut for the year from Lancing Parish Council was £126.

This year the price is £189 and next year it will be £284.

Calum Chace, of Steyning High Street, has rented a beach hut for nine years and started an online petition against the rise which received more than 60 signatures.

"We have been given no explanation for the rise other than because neighbouring councils charge more," said Mr Chace.

Parish council chairman Ann Bridges, however, said the rent still represented good value for money.
