Sharon Elizabeth grew up in Sussex and was a manager at the Ashington-based cake company Kate's Cakes before moving to New Zealand.

After discovering her singing voice, Sharon rose to fame as a soprano who was equally at home in opera and musical theatre.

The former Steyning Grammar School girl is now bringing her show, The "Ising" on the Cake, to St Mary's House, in Bramber on Saturday, May 31.

Sharon, 37, told the Herald: "My show is really unique, it's a slap-up feast of music, comedy and cooking."

Inspiration

Sharon said it was her experience of working for Kate's Cakes combined with her singing talents, that led her to create the cake-themed theatrical show, which sees her cook and ice a chocolate cake while singing songs from musical theatre and opera.

During the performance, Sharon tells the story of her Sussex childhood and the success of her unique form of cabaret.

"I only discovered I could sing properly aged 30 and it's gone from there really," said Sharon, who now lives in Hove.

"It's so much fun. People leave my shows with a spring in their step and it's just lovely to be part of."

Sharon's performance will be accompanied by her own 'Kitchen Sink Trio' band, her partner and musical director, Paul Lewis and numerous colourful props.
