We need nurses

Have your say

My husband has Parkinson’s and unless you are touched by it you probably would not know that in Shoreham, and the surrounding area that stretches from Littlelhampton to Shoreham plus upwards, there is a Parkinson’s nurse.

After a long period of time and a lot of campaigning from Worthing Parkinson’s branch, we managed to have a Parkinson’s nurse put in place, which was funded by Parkinson’s UK for two years.

As this funding comes to an end this March we were looking to the NHS trust to fund the nursing post from then.

At our branch meeting on Saturday we were told that the nurse will be funded for the next year, so what happens then?

No doubt we will be in the same uncertain position as we were – will they won’t they?

Parkinson’s is a very complex condition which needs someone who has expertise in it to advise and understand it.

One wonders why, when we have McMillan nurses in most hospitals, we can not have a Parkinson’s nurse, and we have to fight to get one at that.

We need a Parkinson’s nurse, not on a yearly basis but on a permanent one.
