‘Lycra clad’ cyclist posing danger in Lancing

Something needs to be done about the lycra clad so called “ professionl cyclists” who use the widewater footpath as a racing track during the day.

My dog has just been hit by one of these cyclists at 7am this morning.

He was racing down the footpath with his head down as we were walking up the path from the broadway.

There is a concrete block at the top of the path and as my dog ran out from the side of it he could not stop in time to avoid a glancing blow to my spaniel. He did have the grace to stop, I thought to see if she was ok, but all I got was a mouthful of abuse.

When I pointed out that pedestrians had right of way, and it was a footpath, not a racing track, all I got told was that I ought to be able to control my dog!

I am not against cyclists using the footpath, indeed I use it myself to get to work occasionally, but these lycra clad maniacs who think the footpath is racetrack MUST be stopped before someone is dreadfully injured, or worse.

If it had been my four-year-old granddaughter, whom I take to the beach regularly, using the footpath, the cyclist would not have seen her emerging from the side of the concrete block, and at the speed these cyclist go, she would have been severely injured.

I am not a killjoy, or in a minority, I know several people who won’t walk the footpath, purely because of the cyclists and the abuse they receive if they dare to challenge the speed they are going.

Please, please can something be done before a dreadful accident happens!
