LETTER: '˜IKEA must look elsewhere'

Where do Adur District Council live? Have they somehow missed the existing chaos and traffic issues on the A27?

In rush hours, and for a large part of the day outside of these times, the road is almost at a standstill from the Grove Lodge roundabout in Worthing through to the Shoreham slip road.

The same is true for the traffic moving from the opposite direction.

How can the adding of a superstore and 600 houses make this any easier? I know, we’ll add a roundabout at the Sussex Pad lights – what exactly will this achieve? More chaos for anyone wanting to access the airport or those working at Ricardo – the existing lights stay largely green until triggered by sufficient traffic coming down the slip roads (Coombes and/or the airport ) – so how does a roundabout help?

Leaving aside the issues of the ever-present flooding, what price the health of those unfortunate people living in the catchment area of this potential development? More traffic, more idling cars in gridlock – all belching out unpleasant and harmful pollutants. Wake up, ADC – enough is enough. IKEA must look elsewhere for a site.

Why not use the site for a smaller number of council houses – which would undoubtedly help the local community and go someway to solving the expensive cost of renting/buying in Shoreham, this being yet another unintended consequence of the massive house building programme ADC have embarked on.

Lets hope that the protest is well-organised, factual and stops this madness – and the undoubted appeal by the developers to the Secretary of State falls on deaf ears!
