LETTER: Has anybody got any ideas?

It is upsetting today to see the way that young people are being treated.

A lot of them are coming out of university in debt, and not a lot of job prospects.

The possibility of starting to buy a flat or house is way off limits.

The very lucky may get help from mum and dad.

The reason is that the developers are sitting on land with planning permission but keep houses in short supply to keep the prices up.

This is also welcomed by the banks as they make more with higher mortgages.

The solution is for the councils to start self-build schemes. Tradesmen would be required but the bulk of the work would be done by the youngsters, and there would be no profit.

I have spoken to the local MP. He agreed that the places would be cheaper. I have also emailed a local councillor and tried to contact the council twice. Nothing has come back. Push time forward 25 years, mum and dad have still got a whacking big mortgage or are paying rent, where does junior get his money from?

Another problem is immigration. Why do we require skilled people? We need to train our own. Also, this applies to unskilled.

In the Science Museum there is currently on display a selection of robots and androids displaying their various skills.

It is forecast that in a few years these will be so advanced that they will replace a large proportion of the population.

Where will the money come from to keep them?

I have got to say that the future does not look very bright. Has anybody got any ideas?
