LETTER: Ceremonies not for politics

I feel sure that many people, like myself, are increasingly angry with those successful '˜luvvies' who turn award ceremonies into political platforms.

They purport to speak not for themselves, but for ‘the entire theatrical profession’.

How dare they? Like all professions, it is composed of people with a whole variety of opinions on a whole variety of issues.

These over-privileged and immensely lucky members of that profession have no right to assume for themselves the entitlement to speak for its other 98 per cent, who do not have access to those platforms, simply because they are just jobbing actors, as distinct from ‘successful’ ones.

Sir Patrick Stewart should be entirely ashamed of himself for apologising to Europe on behalf of the entire profession for the country’s decision to leave the corrupt and coercive EU.

There are many actors and variety artistes who voted ‘leave’, not because they were duped or because they were ill educated. Far from it!

So they would say, not in my name.
