A young drummer who played for the Shoreham Allstars has fulfilled a lifetime goal of playing on Later with Jools Holland, performing with Declan McKenna.

Gabrielle King, 22, from Lancing, became involved in the Allstars not long after she began to play drums for her first band Demelza’s tea party. The band were most active in the Allstars between 2009 and 2013 when they played around 40 events, including Beach Dreams, Paddle Round the Pier and at The Ropetackle Center, where Gabrielle would help younger up and coming bands with drumming,

She said: “Allstars really helped to give me a platform to progress as a player and I had the opportunity to play many great gigs during my time with them.

“In 2015 I auditioned to play for up and coming singer/songwriter Declan McKenna, and after two rounds I found out I got the part. I am overwhelmed and grateful for the experiences I have gained in the past nine months, from touring around Europe and America to playing iconic festivals to playing on later with Jools Holland.”

David O’Connell, Allstars managing director, said: “We always thought she’d do well with her music and it’s a fantastic thing to see her come from those first Allstars gigs to where she is now.”
