MEMBERS of Steyning and District Young Farmer’s Club were awarded first prize at an annual ploughing match and show.
West Grinstead and District Ploughing and Agricultural Society held the event at Broomlands Farm in Warnham.
Arundel and South Downs MP Nick Herbert, who is this year’s president of the society, judged the trade stands and presented prizes to the ploughing match winners.
The Steyning young farmers, who are based at Plumpton College, won first prize for their stand.
Simon Kilham, society chairman, gave Mr Herbert a guided tour of the show, which featured ploughing matches with both modern tractors and traditional shire horses, plus a sheep and cattle show.
Cups and awards for ploughing, hedging, welding, children’s and domestic classes were presented on the showground.
Mr Herbert also presided over the society’s 59th annual dinner at The Steyning Centre last Saturday, where other challenge cups and trophies from the show were presented.
The main speaker at the dinner was George Eustice MP, minister for farming and food.
