WORK began on Tuesday on Adur Council’s new base at the Shoreham Centre in Pond Road.
The project has a budget of £3.17million and is due to be completed on June 19, 2015.
Contractor Sunninghill Construction will carry out the work, which will incorporate a council chamber and members’ room on the first floor, as well as space for two charities, Foresight and Talking News.
The ground floor will contain space for the CAB and Shoreham Community Centre, which will be housed within the existing building and will share a new main reception area.
Other improvements including a new commercial kitchen will be provided for the centre.
Adur Council leader Neil Parkin said he was delighted to see the project taking shape.
“We should see the building rising form the ground in the late Autumn,” he said.
Sunninghill Construction director Doug Taylor-Johnson said: “We are delighted to be part of the team delivering this highly-important and re-invigorated signature building to the heart of the Shoreham community, and are confident that the local people will be enjoying its range of facilities for many years to come.”
