A SHOREHAM woman is preparing for her big day at the Brighton Marathon – but not as one of the 16,000 runners.

Laura Whiting has taken on the role of volunteer ambassador, as part of a new team created by the official partner, American Express.

She and three colleagues will be responsible for the engagement and recruitment of more volunteers to support the UK’s second largest marathon.

Ivan Mainprize, American Express vice president, said: “Amex is delighted to be supporting the Brighton Marathon weekend for the fifth year running. It is one of the region’s biggest annual community events.

“In addition to attracting huge visitor numbers to the city, the Brighton Marathon weekend brings significant benefits to hundreds of local charities and of course could not be staged without the support and dedication of so many fantastic volunteers from across Sussex.”

The volunteers will be encouraging runners over the finish line on Sunday, April 12, and presenting well-earned medals.
