VIDEO: Cult TV memorabilia donated to Trust

A CHARITY shop in Southwick has come into a piece of British TV history with a collection of autographed publicity stills from The Avengers.

Brought to the Dogs Trust last week by a donor who wishes to remain anonymous, the black and white/coloured glossy stills captured the glamorous cast in the 1960s cult classic.

Volunteer for the Southwick branch, Shirley Thorpe, said it was a very generous surprise.

“I’m a big fan of the show - they brought in a couple of the stills and asked if we wanted the rest, but the person wants to remain anonymous. It’s very generous,” she said.

“This is obviously from someone who wants the money to support the Dogs Trust.”

Featuring The Avengers and the New Avengers, some of the stills have been autographed by the likes of Patrick Macnee, who played John Steed, and Honor Blackman, who played his stylish assistant.

“We’re very self-sufficient in this shop and we have some marvellous stuff, but we want more people to come forward from further afield who may be interested in these items,” she said.

Shoreham resident Annabelle Heath, who stood in as Dame Diana Rigg’s body double on the show, will be helping to promote the treasure trove.

There are believed to be around a dozen stills, some of which are signed and include the certificates of authenticity.
