The A27 has been shut in both directions after what has been called a ‘serious collision’ close to the Fishbourne Roundabout.
At 3.04pm today, Thursday, October 13, Chichester Police tweeted: “The A27 at #Fishbourne is closed in both directions due to a serious collision. Please avoid the area if possible.”
Emergency services are currently on the scene.
Unconfirmed reports suggest at least one lorry is involved and has overturned and is blocking part of the carriageway.
A number of ambulances, fire engines and police are attending, and one eye-witness has said a police helicopter has also been scrambled.
Police are diverting traffic but there are said to be significant delays.
A West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service spokeswoman said they were called to the incident at 2.26pm.
She said a crew from Chichester and a fire officer attended, supported by a crew from Havant, who have been stood down.
The spokeswoman said the A27 was likely to be closed for some time.
