STEYNING fundraiser David Owen has been selected to run a collection as part of a nationwide Tesco event.
David, 83, has already raised more than £100,000 for Help For Heroes.
Now, he will spearhead the collection days at Tesco Extra in the Holmbush Centre, Shoreham, on September 14 and 15.
The store will be one of 800 Tescos nationwide collection for Help For Heroes that weekend.
Volunteer bucket collectors are needed and to boost the effort, David’s friend, Chris Twiselton, will attempt to run 30 miles on a treadmill.
David said: “Having organised the Armed Forces Day at the end of June in Steyning, and raised approximately £1,100 for our wounded, I am now the point of contact at the Shoreham branch of Tesco for the weekend.
“What is a weekend’s work to us compared to a lifetime of change for them?”
Bryn Parry, Help for Heroes co-founder, said: “H4H is all about ‘doing your bit’ and this event is a wonderful example of people rallying support and having a great deal of fun while they raise money for a wonderful cause.
“The road to recovery is a very long and hard path and for the men and women who served in our recent conflicts, the battle is only just beginning.
“We at H4H will battle for them to ensure that they get the very best support, for life. The money you raise is needed, it is being used and it is hugely appreciated.”
