A STRANDED sailor was helped into Shoreham Harbour when his yacht broke down en route to France.
The 27ft yacht had set off from Chichester on Friday but soon suffered engine failure.
The man on board, who was not sure of his location, was rescued by Shoreham’s D class inshore lifeboat.
The crew launched the lifeboat at 5.20pm to reports of a broken down sailing vessel and found it just off the harbour.
A lifeboatman was put on board and established that the vessel was on passage from Chichester, heading for France.
The vessel was taken under tow into Shoreham Harbour and then secured on to a pontoon in the canal.
