SMOKERS across Adur have joined the Stoptober campaign, attempting to stop for 28 days.
The campaign launched on October 1 and it is hoped many who complete the 28 days will go on to stop forever.
Tom Wye, Worthing Borough Council’s cabinet member for health and wellbeing, has taken up the challenge and colleagues at Adur District Council have offered their support.
David Simmons, Adur’s cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “As someone who regularly has had to suffer from secondary smoking, not only do I want to encourage my colleague Tom Wye to be successful, but to reduce what is seen by many as an anti-social habit which affects the health of other people as well as the smoker.”
He added everyone had a responsibility to persuade young people from starting the habit in the first place.
