A SHOREHAM man with a passion for dahlias has won prizes a county show.
Rod Ansbridge was recognised for his giant yellow dahlias at the Sussex Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society Show.
He received a plaque for the giant dahlias, a variety called Janal Amy, at the show, held at Southdown Nurseries in Hassocks.
Rod has about 150 dahlias growing at his home, some outdoors and some under glass, to protect them from the elements.
He entered four classes and walked away with three first prizes and one second.
The show featured dozens of exhibits from around the county, with silver and bronze plaques awarded to the amateur growers.
Jonathan Tate, who owns the nursery said: “It was a pleasure to welcome our friends from the Sussex Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society, who every year display the highest standards imaginable, especially so when so many of the blooms are grown outdoors and prone to the elements and pests.”
The society has been running since 1966 and holds two shows a year, in September and October.
