AN EVENING of international music raising funds for Steyning Festival 2014 will be taking place this Saturday.
The Brighton & Hove Russian Choir will be performing at 7.30 pm at the Church of St Andrew & St Cuthman, Steyning on November 2.
The choir was founded in 2009 and performs songs in Russian but with an introduction in English explaining the background and meaning of the piece.
The 30 strong choral group has played many events including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London Maslenitsa on Trafalgar Square, Brighton Early Music Festival and more.
The group is led by Polina Shephard, a singer, pianist and music lecturer, who was born in Siberia and grew up in Russia.
She joined Russia’s first klezmer band for 60 years, Simcha.
She also became the principal Yiddish choir leader of the former Soviet Union, composing original material and has toured internationally.
