FIVE is a big number of a Southwich shop, celebrating its birthday next week.

Sandwich in the Square, at 27 Southwick Square, is marking five years in the business, and five years of having a Food Standards Agency rating of five stars.

Owners Nicola Collins and partner Phil Barker are celebrating in style, decking the shop out in balloons and offering complimentary mini cupcakes to their regular customers.

They have also organised a raffle, with prizes donated by other businesses in the Square.

Proceeds will go towards a memorial bench for a former regular customer, Myrna Stowell, who died in December at the age of 79.

She was so well known in the town, shopkeepers asked for her funeral procession on January 20 to pass through Southwick Square, to allow people to pay their respects.

The shop’s celebrations take place on Friday, when the shop is open from 7.30am to 4pm.

Specials on the day will be oven-roasted meat from Southwick Square Meats and homemade soup, using vegetables from Fox’s greengrocer in the Square.
