A PAINFUL accident threatened to put paid to a key role for Shoreham performer Amy Bowyer.

But the show will go on for the 25-year-old, after she persuaded doctors to operate on her foot without a general anaesthetic.

Amy, of Victoria Road, has a major solo song and takes part in all the ensemble song and dance routines in Southwick Players’ Oh! What a Lovely War, which opens tonight.

She feared her hard-fought-for role would be put in jeopardy when a sewing machine needle became embedded in the ball of her foot last week.

Amy plays one of the ladies who tries to recruit soldiers and has a solo number at the beginning of the show.

Performances are at the Barn Theatre in Southwick until Saturday.
