THE Southern Model Lifeboat Society has presented Shoreham lifeboat crew with its own thermal imaging camera.

The inshore lifeboat crew has already used the camera when both lifeboats were called to the fire on Worthing Pier in June.

The crew used the camera to check for hot spots.

Society chairman Tony Olliff said: “We like to raise funds for the local lifeboats and put it towards specific pieces of kit.

“The thermal imaging camera will enhance the crew’s search capabilities.

“We are delighted to present this to Shoreham lifeboat station.”

Shoreham lifeboat coxswain Steve Smith said: “We would like to say a big thank you to the model lifeboat society for donating the thermal imaging camera.

“It will be a useful piece of equipment for the boat.”

The lifeboat station is on Kingston Beach, Shoreham, where the all-weather Tamar lifeboat is housed. The boathouse opened in 2010.
