TRADERS and residents are urged to attend a public meeting and help save Southwick Square.

The meeting has been called by concerned shop owners, who say nothing is being done to help the local businesses there.

It will be held tomorrow at 6.30pm, in The Cricketers pub, just round the corner from Southwick Square, in The Green, Southwick.

John Burtenshaw, who has worked at Southwick Square Meats since 1985, is leading the call for action.

“Let’s try to fill The Cricketers pub with local traders and residents,” he said.

“Please can all attend. It’s important for the future of Southwick Square.”

He said he organised the public meeting because of ‘the continuing decline in the physical environment of Southwick Square’.

Traders and residents planning to attend tonight’s meeting are asked to let Southwick Square Meats know, so the pub can get an idea of numbers. Email southwickquare@hotmail.co.uk or pop into the shop.

Mr Burtenshaw said he was expecting Peter Metcalfe, district councillor for Southwick Green and county councillor for Kingston Buci, to attend, along with David Steadman, Adur town centres and street scene co-ordinator.
