Rise in burglaries in Shoreham

EIGHTEEN Shoreham homes have been broken into in the last three months.

Sussex Police have launched an awareness campaign following the burglaries, which have all happened in the Southlands Ward, around the areas of Shoreham Academy in the east and Buckingham Park School in the west, since July.

Police will hold a street briefing, at the Southlanders Café, Millward Court, Wilmot Road, from 11am to noon, on Monday (September 24), where property protection kits will be handed out.

Items stolen during the incidents, which have all happened between noon and 3pm, and 3am and 6am, include laptops, iPads, iPods and gaming consoles machines, cameras, handbags, cash and mobile phones.

In 11 of the 18 cases, offenders gained access through insecure windows and doors.

Kevin Brown, public engagement officer for Adur and Worthing police, said: “In half the cases doors and windows were not secure and this has allowed the offenders to enter the property with ease.

“Please remember to secure your property’s windows and doors. Don’t make it easy for them.”

Anyone with information relating to these crimes is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
