RECYCLED tyres are one of the new items to be seen travelling through Shoreham Harbour.

The tyres join the wide variety of cargo already handled at Shoreham Port, including timber, steel and aggregates.

The first shipment was exported to Poland last week, having arrived from a Worthing depot, where they are collected from tyre companies across the south of England.

In Poland, the tyres will be used in a waste transfer plant, where they will be used to make quality fuels, oils and carbon black.

Alan Motterham, commercial/operations director, said: “It is great for the port to be handling a new type of cargo, expanding our already growing cargo portfolio.

“We hope that with the successful export of the current cargo of tyres, we will see many other shipments continue throughout the year.”
