TALENTED actors from the Shoreham and Steyning areas are sought for Ariel Company Theatre’s next major production.

Auditions for Oliver! take place in Burgess Hill on Sunday and a combination of adult and child actors are needed.

Tanya Botting from Ariel said: “We are keen to encourage actors across Sussex who have not worked with Ariel before to come along for the audition and experience working as part of our theatre company.

“We already have strong links with the area and our Steyning academy has now grown to 98 students.”

One star of the show is already cast - four-legged actor Arthur, an English bull terrier, will play Bullseye, the companion of career criminal Bill Sikes.

Arthur’s owners live near Burgess Hill and the dog will be making his acting debut in this energetic musical.

Open auditions for the 2015 musical follow critical acclaim with previous productions, including Miss Saigon, Les Misérables, Jesus Christ Super Star, We Will Rock You and The Wizard of Oz.

The Lionel Bart masterpiece continues to be one of the most popular British musicals. Auditions will take place at Oakmeeds Community College, Burgess Hill, and will be run in a workshop style with individual auditions for the principal roles.

Show director Neil Hopson said: “This is a call out across Sussex to passionate actors of all ages to invite them to audition for this fantastic musical.

“We hope to see many young actors from across the local community and our academies auditioning for roles, but we are particularly keen to welcome adult actors to apply.

“The auditions are open to all from seven years old to adult, whether you have worked with Ariel before or not. The lead roles are undoubtedly challenging, but they provide a great opportunity to develop an individual’s theatre skills in singing, acting and dance.”

He said a production of this scale demanded considerable commitment and actors who are cast must be available for the rehearsal period. The musical will run at The Hawth Theatre, Crawley, from September 24 to 26, 2015.
