CAR parking charges are to be reintroduced at the Riverside car park on Shoreham Beach.
The car park in Lower Beach Road has been free since it re-opened following completion of the Adur Ferry Bridge.
It had been used for the storage of building materials and equipment, so parking charges were suspended in summer 2012.
Keith Dollemore, Adur District Council’s executive member for the environment, said: “The car park was closed to assist the building of the new Adur Ferry Bridge as part of Adur’s contribution to it.
“When the bridge was finished, it was intended to redevelop the car park and surrounding area. This has not happened, but we do need to bring the car park back into regulated use and available for all, for the benefit of everyone including local businesses. I sincerely hope the redevelopment will progress later in the year.”
Parking charges will apply from January 19, excluding Sundays and bank holidays, and remain unchanged from 2012.
It will be 25p for up to 30 minutes, 50p for up to an hour, £1 for up to two hours, £1.50 for up to three hours, £2 for up to four hours and £3 for up to eight hours.
