ST BARNABAS: Spring has sprung in the hospice garden

Recently I have started to notice the blossoming of daffodils around the hospice which can only mean one thing '“ spring has sprung.

Did you know there are more than 27,000 different plants across our grounds here at St Barnabas House?

When our new hospice on Titnore Lane was first built, one of the most important aspects of its design was the gardens, particularly the ones looked out upon by people who are staying in our in-patient unit.

They provide a real oasis of calm for our patients and their families, and we always get compliments for the choice of plants on display.

We have a wonderful team of volunteer gardeners who ensure that our grounds look at their very best all year round, and they have been hard at work over the past few months.

Of course, we are always looking for more volunteers, not just gardeners but in many different roles at the hospice.

You can find all of our current volunteering opportunities at www.stbh.org.uk/volunteering.

It’s also that time of year when I know many of you will be thinking about doing some spring cleaning, which hopefully will give a welcome boost of donations to our charity shops.

We always need donations of good quality items to sell in our shops.

The proceeds from the sale of these donations goes towards providing hospice care for local people and support for their families.

Most people drop donations off at either their local St Barnabas House shop or our retail distribution centre.

We can also arrange furniture collections.

You can find your local shop at www.stbh.org.uk/shops.
