LETTER: You're living in fantasy world
I am appalled at the proposed sale of the council’s downland farms. If you think that the one-off sale of the farms will keep the council financially afloat for longer than one or two years, you are living in a fantasy world.
What are you going to sell off when the money is gone? Council nursing homes? The parks? The seafront?

Hide AdI refer you to Sunday’s episode of Countryfile on BBC1 which looked at this problem as several councils up and down the country are proposing to do the same thing. Except in Staffordshire, where the council is investing in the infrastructure of their farms and making a good profit out of them!
May I suggest that you look closer at Staffordshire County Farms’ estate strategy and see if it can be implemented here?
Our tenant farmers deserve a better deal than you are willing to offer them.
