THE Herald & Gazette has joined forces with GP practices in the area which form part of the NHS Coastal West Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). This week they are offering someone the chance to join the governing body.

This week we have a new arrival and an exciting opportunity at the clinical commissioning group.

We are delighted that Kieran Stigant has joined us this week as the CCG’s new chair.

Kieran has more than 20 years’ experience in the coastal West Sussex area, most noticeably as chief executive of West Sussex County Council for three years until 2014.

He joined the organisation on Monday and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to help us develop our plans to improve local care.

The CCG has a vision for bringing health and social care closer together for our population, and Kieran’s experience in the local authority will really help us to push this work forward.

Kieran’s arrival comes at a time when we are also looking for another key member of the CCG governing body team.

We are currently seeking a new lay member of our governing body who will hold the CCG to account and act as an ambassador for the quality and safety of local health services.

The role is an important part of our structure as the lay member challenges our work in terms of the quality of services, what we are doing to develop local care, and how patient experience is being improved.

Making sure that local people are able to access high quality and safe services is at the very heart of what we do, and the lay member will help to make sure we listen to local people and act on what we hear about local services, challenging us to make sure improvements are made where necessary.

To do this, we are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about putting patients first, with clinical knowledge, and has experience at board level.

If you are interested more details can be found on our website: www.coastalwestsussexccg.nhs.uk/job-opportunities – the deadline for applications is Wednesday, March 9.

All of our governing body members, including our chair and lay members, have a significant role in how the CCG works, and importantly, how we make sure we are doing the right thing for our local communities.
