Four day rail closure is to remove old signalbox, I understand

Regarding the four day rail closure between Haywards Heath and Polegate.

I understand that this closure is to make a second attempt by Network Rail, with correct tools, to remove the redundant signal box at Lewes.

Is this necessary? Why not just leave it in place?

Surely replacement buses are against the government emission propaganda.
