Representatives from Dennis Watkins Insurance, parents and children of the school, and the school PTA were invited to the opening ceremony, as they had all helped support the project.

PTA fundraising to support the project over the past few months has included a film night and a quiz, while Paul and Abi Parsons, Mika Wild and Arthur Allenby-Byrne raised money through sponsored events.

Head teacher Lawrence Caughlin told the assembled audience that in the tradition of the school, it had been a true community project with all stakeholders contributing, from children undertaking sponsored events to contributions from the community.

He also thanked Mr Abdul Rahim, a parent of the school, who had been instrumental in overseeing the installation of the new equipment.

Mr Caughlin finished by assuring all present that the play area would be enjoyed by the children at Swiss Gardens for many years to come.

A plaque was presented which read: “Play area opened spring 2015. Funded by donations from school parents, PTA and Dennis Watkins Insurance Brokers.”

The school, in Swiss Gardens, has 416 pupils.
