The college, in Littlehampton Road, Goring, held a special ribbon cutting event to celebrate the occasion, while the studio was officially opened by German artist Wolfgang Flur, a former member of 80s electronic band Kraftwerk.

The new department includes a fully-equipped studio for recording live music, along with a smaller studio, and a number of editing suites for composing and mixing tracks for a range of genres.

And one young man had his day made, after composing and presenting a track to Wolfgang, who then announced he wished to collaborate with him for a future album.

Alex Young, 21, studying Level Three Music, said: “He’s given me his details, it’s incredible. I just didn’t think this would happen.”

The event included a tour around the new studios with demonstrations from students before an opening presentation.

Wolfgang, 68, said: “This studio is unbelievable. When I was young it was not possible to think such talents could be developed in a place like this.

“It is very important young people have the opportunity to practise their talents and find their style to break into the industry.”

Sue Dare, principal of the college, said: “It was an absolute delight to welcome Wolfgang. It was great to see him actively engaged with the students, and to see a collaboration already forming was more than I could have hoped for.

“We now want to grow student numbers coming to the college and really want to become the central hub for music on the south coast.”
