THE westbound slip road onto the A27 at Shoreham will remain closed overnight, after the Adur flyover was damaged in a collision this morning.

The Highways Agency will install specialist concrete blocks at the flyover overnight, so that the road can be safely reopened tomorrow. More permanent work will be carried out at a later date.

The A27 westbound will also need to be resurfaced at a later date due to fire damage.

The collision, involving a black Vauxhall Astra and a white Transit van, took place shortly after 4am.

The driver of the car left the scene.

A 22-year-old man from Worthing was later arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a specimen for analysis, failing to report an accident and dangerous driving.

He was released on bail until 17 October.

No-one was seriously hurt.
