Conservative MP Tim Loughton has appeared to give his backing to Andrea Leadsom in the Tory leadership race.

The East Worthing and Shoreham MP told Twitter followers this morning the energy minister and Vote Leave campaigner would be a ‘fantastic leader’.

Mrs Leadsom joins Michael Gove, Liam Fox, Stephen Crabb and Teresa May as nominations for the leadership, with Boris Johnson expected to declare his candidacy by today’s 12pm deadline.

Mr Loughton: “Andrea is just the sort of fresh start politics and Britain needs at this crucial time in our nation’s future.”
