Young eco-warriors were given a taste of celebrity status when they opened the new-look Co-operative Food store in Shoreham.

The Fairtrade ambassadors from Swiss Gardens Primary School were invited to cut the ribbon to declare the store open on Thursday, November 15, following its £250,000 transformation.

The children, from years four and six, were given a chance to look round the new-look store and the school received a £200 donation towards its environmental projects

Lis Telcs, Fairtrade co-ordinator at the school, in Swiss Gardens, Shoreham, said: “They were really excited. They very much enjoyed the big foam scissors and some of their parents came down to watch.”

She said the school would also be receiving a hamper packed with fresh produce from The Co-operative, which would be raffled at the school’s Christmas fair.
