A TALENTED young Shoreham chef has won a coveted place at a new academy.

George Martin, 18, will be heading to the Exclusive Chefs’ Academy from City College Brighton and Hove.

The academy was launched recently by Exclusive Hotels and Venues, after a three-month selection process. It gives students the chance to work alongside Steven Edwards, champion of the 2013 series of MasterChef: The Professionals.

City College catering tutor Allan Paul said: “George was a really committed student who made the most of the opportunities we gave him to refine his culinary skills, so it’s fantastic to see him progress on to this exciting programme.”

George is one of just 13 chefs to secure a place, having completed a rigorous selection process.

The academy was the brainchild of the company’s executive chef, Andy Mackenzie, who designed an intensive programme to attract and nurture aspiring talent.

He said: “It’s going to be an exciting and challenging two years ahead for the chefs on the programme and for our own chefs, who are ready to inspire and develop what we believe to be the UK’s freshest new talent.”
