WORK to fill the gap in the boardwalk on Shoreham Beach is underway.
Contractors moved in this morning to start placing the pieces that will fill the 20m gap and complete the 400m boardwalk.
John Mitchell, Adur Council’s director for communities, said the work was expected to take three to four days.
The council already had the pieces needed to complete the boardwalk in storage, from when the rest was installed in autumn 2011.
It brings to an end the long-running battle to fill the gap, with the owners of that section of the beach finally agreeing to sell the land to the council.
