Upper Beeding youngsters benefit from grants

Youngsters in Upper Beeding are set to benefit from two Making a Difference Locally grants.

Mr Jayesh Patel, who runs the Nisa Local in Hyde Square, was asked to propose two local good causes to benefit from the charity’s community award grant.

He selected Friends of Upper Beeding School and Beeding and Bramber Pre-School Playgroup, based at the Village Hall in the High Street.

On Friday, Jay and his wife visited the school to present a cheque for £700.

“We will be using this fabulous donation to help set up a brand new outside science area – pond, nesting boxes, insect houses, weather station, suitable vegetation to attract birds and insects, etc – which can be used by all ages of children here,” said a school spokesperson.

“We are very excited about getting this up and running. FUBS, our PTA, have also been raising money for this project so this money will be a very welcome addition to the ‘pot’ and enable us to get started earlier than anticipated.”

The pre-school playgroup was also delighted to receive £700, which will be used to purchase a new heavy duty wooden kitchen for the role play area.

Supervisors Mia Pullen and Chantael Brookshaw said: “As a committee-run playgroup, we rely on fund-raising events and charitable donations to enable us to purchase new toys and equipment for the children.

“This donation has enabled us to purchase something which will be used by the children daily and which otherwise would have taken us a while to raise sufficient funds for.

“We are very grateful to Jayesh Patel for nominating our charity for this community award fund.”
