STREET performances and community activities are planned across the district to launch the Adur Festival on Saturday.
The Strange Creatures Street Party takes place in Pond Road, Shoreham, at the Fishersgate Centre and in North Road, Lancing.
Co-ordinator Mella Faye Punchard said: “We are stopping the traffic and coming together to celebrate the brilliant and the absurd.
“The streets are going to be alive with colour and activity for an all-ages fancy dress party.”
Schools, community groups and local artists will be out in force on the big carnival day.
In Shoreham, there will be a real ale bar, craft workshops in the yurt and a chance to have a picture taken in the Strange Creature Zoo.
There is a live graffiti workshop in the Shoreham Centre with Zz Twenty Two from 11.30am to 5.30pm, sock puppet and costume-make workshops at Shoreham Library from 1pm to 3pm and a host of street entertainment from 2.30pm to 7pm.
Joining the party will be a Giant Snail from the Insect Circus, Ludwig the Giant Lobster from Colossal Crumbs, a theatre walkabout from the Honk Project and the Black Eagles acrobatic troupe.
Also in the town centre on Saturday, there is the French Market in East Street from 9am to 5pm, and Artisans Market on Coronation Green from 9am to 2pm.
