AN air cadet from Steyning was one of only seven across the country chosen for an experience of a lifetime.

Sergeant Tyler White, from 1140 (Steyning) Squadron Air Training Corps, was selected for the rafa YOUTH Cyprus Award trip to RAF Akrotiri.

He said: “I felt elated when I found out I’d been selected to go to Cyprus. I was excited about the trip and looking forward to the sun and culture.”

The seven air cadets joined a Girls Venture Corps air cadet, an Air Explorer Scout and a Combined Cadet Force (RAF) cadet for the week-long expedition to Cyprus.

Activities included visiting the dog section, seeing local attractions, spending the afternoon watching the Red Arrows and meeting the team’s engineers.

Dave Emsley, officer commanding at Steyning, said he had nominated Tyler because he was an enthusiastic and motivated cadet.

“He was lucky enough to be selected as one of only seven air cadets nationally to have this fantastic opportunity and I’m very pleased he had such a good time,” he added.

He said other Steyning air cadets had had the opportunity to visit Florida and do adventure training over Easter.
